Our little flight to San Jose, Costa Rica back in August was everything but little. The flight was scheduled to depart Houston, Texas at 5:20 PM and arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica at 7:30 PM.
We were almost to San Jose when the pilot came over the intercom and announced that the plane had a hydraulic leak (effecting the landing gear), therefore we needed to turn around.
We flew back to Houston to switch planes. It was an international flight so we had to hang out in a secure area (aka: the hallway) waiting for our new plane. Thank goodness we didn't have to go back through customs and an even bigger thanks that the kids didn't have to go 'POTTY'. So here we go with our 8 carry-ons, two children and no more food (they already pounded their snacks on the first flight and planned on having dinner in San Jose).
We hit the air again around 9 PM. The flight crew was amazing and they knew that everyone was tired and hungry so free booze and snacks were flowing! Thank you Southwest (and thank you for the Love surprise by sending us vouchers). Side note: Southwest is our favorite way travel to and from Costa Rica. They have a two free checked bags policy and great sales (make sure you sign up for their alerts to snag a great deal)!
So, we landed in our new country at 1:15 AM with eight carry-ons, eight checked bags, a stroller, and two car seats waiting for our car that we bought sight unseen (in July) from Send Me South (they are amazing by the way).
Send Me South and our Toyota Prado arrived and we somehow managed to get our entire 'life' into and on top of the car. It's was way too late to head to Guanacaste so we hit up a hotel and had to unload everything... again. Sweet dreams and lights out at 3am (well that is after we had to move rooms 3 times with kids that couldn't keep their eyes open because the AC unit was broken in two, yes two, of the rooms.
It's all part of the adventure, right?! Pura Vida
